About

I am an interior designer, illustrator and graphics creator.

Interior Design Ethos
I create narratives that bring a unique context to spaces in order to transform them into places. Drawing on local history, environment and human experience, my intention is to create designs that both recognise the past and provide resilience as we move forward. Sustainability is embedded within my practice and through rigorous research, I provide evidence-based justification to design, FF&E selections, layouts and alterations to existing interiors.

Illustration

Pens, pencils and ink are my tools of choice alongside occasional printmaking, collage and other techniques. I use Adobe Illustrator, moving into graphics as I create logos and icons. I love drawing objects, animals, people, and places. But I'm not very good at hands, sorry.

Graphic Design

Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign are what I use to create logos, icons, and printed marketing materials. Designing promotional, educational, wayfinding and instructional resources is my favoured cup of tea. I love the challenge of taking indigestible data and turning it into something more palatable.

Research Methodologies

Understanding the place, space, person and their needs: this is at the heart of everything I create.  I am confident in sourcing information having had over a decade's worth of experience working at academic libraries and I have a solid understanding of Design Thinking tools. Here are just a few of the methods I use with:

  • Site & spacial analysis
  • Precedent studies
  • Secondary research methods eg. print & online resources, media channels
  • Stakeholder surveys and questionnaires
  • Expert Interviews
  • Customer Journeys
  • Core Values
  • Personas
  • Empathy exercises
  • Mindmapping
  • Problem Statements
  • Idea generators
  • SWOT analysis
